Black river a Jason Hamilton rescued these gentlemen
Anchoring off the stern

Does anybody have the names of the unfortunate anglers?  Pretty sure I found one of their waders.  Nice waders-they can have them back if they can get in touch with me.  Found them floating inside out in front of the barracks in Sackets Harbor the same day it happened.

Pretty quiet on this thread!  I had a chance to make my first fall trip to Oneida earlier this week.  Showed up at the wall at Sylvan to see a nice walleye landed.  Fished it a half hour with no luck and proceeded to the lake itself at sunset.  I saw huge schools of shad going back and forth in front of the rocks with the lights behind me lighting up the water.  Witnessed a number of "eyes" slashing through these schools chasing the bait.  Some were really moving and some were much more deliberate in their approach.  Only got one to commit but it was a great evening.  Amazing how close to shore they will come in for food.

Was out taking a ride Wed to the Oneida area. My wife said aren't you going to take a fishing rod with you.
Well we stopped at the wall and I was able to land a fall fish and a nice walleye. It was great afternoon to be there.
Only a couple of guys around.

Went to south shore last night and fished from shore at dusk. Bite was good and steady. Went 4/5 and kept one. Black/Silver F11 Rapala... mostly slow retrieves, but a couple hits on fast sudden bursts. If you are one of the folks who travel far and were waiting till you heard if the shore  bite was good, I would say now is the time to start hitting it.

I have fished Oneida Lake for over 70 years and have never caught so many (lots and lots) quality eyes in  5 hrs as my son and I did today.   Kept limit of 6. 2 were deep hooked  17.5 inches each. The other 4 made up a bag that weighed just over 16lbs. And nothing over 25 inches. Deep, wide, healthy fish..    And this all happened between 11:30 am and 4:30. Pm..  and not one short all afternoon..  Amazing afternoon, saw just 4 other fishing boats and 3 pleasure crafts. Water temp was 52 to 54 degrees..  wind was variable, mostly SW under 5 MPH..
