Don't know how much they weighed other then the estimates.  The biggest was around 40+lbs.  All fish were returned to the St. Lawrence river unharmed.

I am going to give muskies a shot this year.

How should I rig up for trolling?  Braided line/Steel Leader?

Those are some gorgeous fish, I cant wait to catch one of those toothy fellas!

I use heavy line 40lb braided and even some copper.  Trolling speed 3.5 to 5 mph and as far as leaders they are a must. 18" and 40 lb.  Downriggers
I like to troll large plugs 8" and even larger and large spoons.  Depending on the size of the fish in your area you might want to adjust to the appropriate size.  Stay away from fast currents.  All of the fish caught last year were caught by drop offs and on the edge of large srtucture.  Every area is a little different and if you expect to go out and catch a muskie every day I can tell you it won't happen.  If I had to give one piece of advice I would say read read read.  Find some magizines of your area about muskie fishing  and have fun.  I like to fish from 2hrs before daylight until 9 am then back in the late evening until about 2 hrs after dark.

We have hogs in my area, pretty similar fishing to what you have up in the St. Lawrence.

I know I have to put some time in.  Im just getting started.

How long a lead do you fish your lures off the riggers?

We run 3 riggers off the back of the boat.  the 2 outside riggers are set at 15' and 20'  The center rigger is at 10'  On the outside we usually run two copper lines out 150' and 200' depending on the depth.  150' of copper should get you down about 28'.

We went out the last two days but didn't hook up with anything but a few pike.  Weather was nasty with 15-20 mph winds the first day and even stronger today.
Did see something pretty neat.  Hooked up a video recorder to the center rigger and seen the pike come up and hit the plug.

The wife and I have been fishing with Ernie for years.  We do 5-6 trips.  He is one of the most professional guides I have ever met.  If the fish are around he will catch them.  If you check out his hot line report and scroll down the page you will see a photo of my wife with a salmon we caught this summer with either a peacock or fire tiger plug.  All I can say about Fish Doctor Charters is that for tha past 5 years we have been going out with Ernie and have never had a bad experiance.  We recomend them highly.
