Went looking for trouts today on a local public lake. Didn't find any or see any signs thereof. I began tossing
a very small squirrel tail jig of my own design. On my third cast a bass charged after it as I began to lift the
bait from the water. The jig was 2" total length... the fish, not much bigger. A few minutes later, and farther from shore, I felt a nice "Thump" and my ultralight bent double. My first largemouth of the year was a light pound but a welcome catch. A few minutes later, I caught its twin. Even though the water and air temps were both below 40 degrees these fish were fairly active. It won't take much of a warm up to get things rolling.
