I've made some in the past. Wonder if I could turn some on the lathe

How to turn a yoyo.....My Way..
Start with some hunks of wood
Drill a hole for the pin chuck
Slide the piece on the pin chuck and seat it.
Turn the blank round and true the ends
Size the blank. I use 2 1/4"
Shape the ends and mark center.
After parting a center slot, I sand and finish.
These are fun little turns.

They are...and challenging for a freehand wood turner. As always I keep refining the process. I made one this afternoon that's nearer to the goal. I also set up to make my own yoyo strings. Yet another challenge although not at all unfamiliar to me. Much like making furled leaders for the fly rod.
It seeems it never ends. One thing just leads to another for me.

I respectfully laughed right there! Of course you do and I expected nothing less. In fact, I was wondering what you did for strings, and that's the perfect thing!

The plows just woke me up. First the road then our driveway guy. He lives next door so we get plowed when he goes out and when he gets back. He's a good friend and works in a cabinet shop. Looks to be about 6" or so on the ground and still snowing.
May as well stay up now. Think I'll have my coffee and go twist up a few more strings.

Further adventures in yoyo making
I decided that my first attempts were not balanced and caused some wobble in the yoyo. So....I made a balance beam to assure the two halves are as close to even in weight as possible.
Even though the two parts seem evenly turned to the eye, they are obviously not. I found I could adjust the weight by removing material under the button cap.
I also decided to try coloring with sharpies.
It's getting there. The last couple spin really well.

I've been busy making some Christmas presents.
A mortar and pestle, and a toothpick holder.
Fun stuff to turn.

Was the tooth- pick holder going to be given to someone with teeth or a denture? I had to be a smart ass cause I marvel at what you and others can do with wood and talent. Way cool and way to involved for me. Ill stick to making the dentures!
