Headed out to the Salmon River next Saturday
« on: Apr 19, 2008, 11:20 AM »
I can't wait..... :D

My father and I are making our annual spring trip to the Salmon River (NY) next Satuday to fish for some nice steelhead ;D

Unfortunately I'll miss opening day in NH but it tends to be crowded anyway...       I will be sure to post some pics when I get back and then

it will be consistant trout fishing in NH with a small break for peak striper season...

Not sure if you are hitting the lake or not but I just got a report from a charter capt in Oswego and the brownies are starting to pick up out on the lake!

I met a guide out there a few years back... Capt Tom Burke of Cold Steel Sportfishing.  (Drift Boat/Charter Boat Fishing)

Good guy and gets a lot of nice fish, My Dad and I go out with him one day and on our own the other,
It helps alot when you have someone with you who's native to the area.

Usually the guide runs about  $250-300 for the day (drift boat) for 2 people...8hrs on the river
$350+ for charter boats 2-6 peolple on LK Ontario

This covers the total expense for your fishing only

I usually plan on spending another $250 or so for food/gas/lodging for a weekend

We usually spend a grand total of $500+/- for my father and I per trip.

Tommy Burke is a great guy.  His mate, Adam, also runs a drift boat service called "Tail Chasers" or "Chasin Tail". Another great guide that I would strongly recommend is Kevin Davis who runs "Catch The Drift."  He runs the Oswego River and others as well.

I just got back from that area on Wednesday, the river was to high to fish so we stuck to the local tribs, but it was an unbeliveable experience.  My first time out landed 3 lost countless others, will certainly be making a pilgrimage back next year.  My brother was on the Salmon the last two days, he said the fishing was on fire.  I guess  they are releasing a bunch of fish from the hatchery this weekend, so you should be in for a good time.
