Just can't find 'em!

Okay, so I have been fishing in a lake in Iowa (central iowa) and there is still ice, but open spots everywhere. I can't seem to catch any fish! Does anyone have advice on how to catch walleye, bass, or crappie??  (im fishing the open spots)
