Great Pond - Pike
« on: Jul 29, 2010, 07:22 AM »
Taking the kids to Great Pond next week and hopefully will get into some nice Bass / Pike.  I am hoping to get into some large Pike, but I realize this is not the best time of the year for them.  If anyone has any advice on locations/depth/techniques, it would be greatly appreciated.

We are staying on Great Pond but will most likely try Messalonskee as well, usually do pretty well on the Southern end.

Thanks!
Mike

I dont know anything about great pond. But it's been an off year due to the hot weather. Most of the big ones have been down deep for some time now.

I've been doing good with big in-lines, and big spinnerbaits. If there in shallow, there hitting anything moving fast, and making some commotion. Big rapalas also could be doing well. I've been going well with chartreuse and white. Also keeping the lure subsurface has been producing.

If you have the patients for it, i'm sure live bait in about 20-30' of water would produce well, especially around rock ledges, or near a weed bed.

Good luck!!

deep water. deep rock piles, etc. my favorite thing to look for is weedbeds in deeper water. big rapalas or spinnerbaits such as what pike fisherman described would do the trick.

Nothing over 10 I would say.  I wasn't trying to catch them so I did not weigh them. All on spinner baits.

Thanks guys...so far the Pike are almost nonexistent (a few small ones) but the Smallmouth have been very active (got one over 3lbs yesterday).  I hope the Pike turn on a bit this week....
