Fishing opportunities in Hilton Head area?

I will be visiting the Hilton Head area the first week of March and wondering what locals would recommend in the way of fishing(fresh or saltwater)
Really don’t want to spend big bucks on a charter. Wondering if I should bring my kayak?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!
