Did 15 jars of pickles this morning.

3c. White vinegar
3c. Cider vinegar
3c. Water
1/2c. Canning or kosher salt
1-3c. Sugar depending on how sweet you like them.
1tsp. Turmeric

Heat to dissolve the salt and sugar. Keep hot until added to the jars.

Wash and sterilize jars in hot water canning bath.

To each hot jar add,
Mustard seed
Celery seed
Fresh dill sprigs
Dill seed
Chopped onion
Chopped garlic

Pack with pickles
Fill hot jars with hot brine
Clean rim of jar and place new lid with a ring just finger tight

Process a full 10 minutes at 195* or more

Remove and cool
Refrigerate any jars that don't seal.

You can add crushed red pepper, jalapeños, Serranos, cowhorn, Hungarian hot  or any other heat additives you like. I'd suggest easing into the heat. This batch got about 1/2 tsp of crushed red pepper per jar.

Have fun,

My son brought me a couple gallons of Worm Power to try on my gardens. Compost tea from worm castings. He says it worked miracles on the golf course and no chemicals. I've got a couple buckets of water sitting to dechlorinate. Chlorine in the tap water kills some of the microbial content.

Can't wait to douse some plants. I'm going to do a side by side with my clematis, carrots and snow peas.

If your local WA uses chloramine, you have a problem as it won't off-gas.
Need to treat it instead to neutralize it.

Better check.

Never heard of chloramine. A quick check scares me to death. Wonder if there's a filter for it? Maybe I'll just buy 5 gallons of spring water

They always get you one way or the other.

Whew.....just called. They use chlorine. They told me no one in NY uses chloromines. Hope that's true.

Does anyone plant anything "exotic"? I was looking at kiwi trees but have not pulled the trigger.

Ed this is the basic recipe we use except we double or triple  it and add some hot peppers also and add the peppers to the shreaded zucchinie in the begining...
Its a 2 day job.  But worth it...   ;D

Or bring a bucket to the lake.  8)
One more with the one we're after and we'll have two.

That is neat. I see one of these in my future.

Kind of looks like a wysteria “tree” though... I  hope they don’t take over like that.

Fall crop has been planted. Lettuce, radish, turnip, carrots, spinach, endive, peas, arugula, wax beans, green beans, gold and detroit red beets, cantaloupe, 2 types of squash, 2 types of zuccini and acorn squash. everything here has a 50 day or less harvest time excluding the cantaloupe.
