Title: Biggest Bass Yet!
Post by: ChenBassHead on May 07, 2004, 06:13 AM
Here's a picture of the 7 lb bass I caught last night. Taken on a small Strike King jig.

2nd nice bass in 3 days, third big one of the year! ;D ;D This one is without a doubt the best one though!

Thanks guys! ;) :D The waders are a design of my own...so don't you go using my idea ;D Gotta do whatcha gotta do, and I did NOT want to lose this fish...so I jumped in the water to get it haha.

And YES, the fish went back to spawn. The season is closed. Even if it was open, it would've gone back. I'm STILL grinning, I just can't believe the fish I'm catching this year! This one just takes the cake though. WIthout a doubt, the biggest bass I've caught...yet! ;)

I'm fishing for whatever wants to bite...just because I catch tons of bass doesn't mean I'm fishing FOR bass ;) Honestly, I hate fishing for anything except bass, with the exception of pike, because I have no interest in the other fish. 100% C&R.

Beautiful bass. Congrats.

Nice pic too.

right on, C&R, is the way to go, unless ofcourse your hungry and eat your fish. Bass fishing with pig and jig is my favorite way next to jerk baits and top water explosions.
:D I would be all smiles to with that beauty  8)

Best to not do that here on this thread and take away from Zach's moment.

Beautiful fish Zach!  I love the feeling of a chunky fat bucketmouth hanging from my grip.  What a rush!

Now, how about the fishing story behind this fish?

It's a 30 acre water supply reservoir. It gets no pressure from boaters (electrics only) except for me, pretty much. It's only 15 years old, and the bass it produces are BIG! I believe it can produce a state record...it's got all the forage a bass could ever want (cray fish, golden shiners, sunnies, perch). Theres a 10 lber swimming in there, I know it! ;D I just have to find it!

-Zach

camo_fish-thats a cute kid you have there! I'll bet he really enjoys going fishing with his old man, doesnt he? :D ;D

got em, did you not read fat boys articule. As long as you aren't harvesting bass out of season, spring time pre-spawn, spawn, and post spawn are a great time to catch a nice one.
Title: Re: Biggest Bass Yet!
Post by: got em on May 09, 2004, 05:55 PM
;) hey camo fish pre spawn and spawn bass are out of season..whats your definition of harassing bass out of season????
Title: Re: Biggest Bass Yet!
Post by: camo_fish on May 09, 2004, 07:03 PM
Harvest, catching and eating, if you are releasing them  :D , had you ever caught a bass on the ice, there out of season. oh yea, you are jigging for perch not bass, is that it? Leave the kid alone, you have never caught a fish out of season.
To C&R is to C&R and not harm the fish, if in season or not.

;) ok I'll leave him alone,I've caught bass accidentaly through the ice, bass while walleye fishing, but if you know what they are doing in the area and they are out of season..enough said close the can of worms ;)

Jeeze...I didn't intend on starting an argument ::) Hopefully the proposal for a year-round C&R season in NY goes through, I want to hit more waters...I know a few that have some MONSTERS, along with a lot of 4-6 #ers.

Zach, why not get together a petition and get MFF and Iceshanty members (and anyone else that you can get to sign) to join you in fighting that ridiculous NY law?  The more people you get, the better chance you have.

Got em is right though, the regs are pretty specific.  It's against the law, no doubt, even catch and release.  It's awfully hard to prove though.  Very ridiculous.  I couldn't believe it when I saw it!  Catch and release is the future, not banning the fishing.  Harrumph, harrumph...this could be headed for the GOMB! ;D  I guess that if there are other species worth targeting, it can keep you busy while they are bedding, but jeez!  Down here, we have walleye and stripers to keep us busy, and crappie too.  But, there are always bass that aren't on beds somewhere in the lake that will hit, and it's legal down here.  I feel very priviledged to live in Maryland!  I never ever thought that I'd say that we weren't over regulated down here!!!!!  Uh oh...I think I've got a good complaint type thread in mind!

???WHAT DID YOU USE FOR BAIT??? ??? ;D
Title: Re: Biggest Bass Yet!
Post by: ChenBassHead on Jun 24, 2004, 05:56 PM
Nope, no monsters lately. The biggest ones I've caught since are a few "dinky" 4 pounders ;)  ;D One with a huge bite taken out of it's tail.

On that 7 pounder, I was using a small Strike King jig, with no trailer. The jig was orange and brown. I was fishing the bottom portion of a sharp drop off parallel to shore, just off shore. She was getting ready to come up onto her spawning bed. The water was still a little cold for spawning. The monster hunting is going to get tough now, but I'm going to work at it. I want a 5 lb smallie now.
