Walleye on topwater???
« on: Aug 03, 2020, 08:23 AM »
Good morning folks:

I ran over to the Hudson by lock 6 to do some shore fishing just above a power dam.  I was tossing around a Spook searching for smallies.  Caught a few, then had one that seemed like it needed vision correction.  It flailed and flopped all over the place, but kept missing the bait.  It seemed to love the bubble trail more than the bait.  Anyway, after a couple of follow-up casts, he finally found the promised land.  Felt weird on the line, just lazy.  Got it to the shore and it was a darn walleye about 18' long!  WHAT?!?!  I've been fishing for 40 years and have never even heard of an 'eye on topwater, and surely not in mid-summer.  How bizarre.  I'm curious, have you guys ever seen this happen?  Tight lines!

I have never caught one on a top water but I have had them hit a bait immediately after it landed on the surface. So I know they hang out near the surface at least occasionally.

They'll hit anything
I was trolling loc 7 area  with large musky bait and caught 2 walleye over 26" and one on a large
Double hook musky spinner bait in the day time
Last week

Lock 7 in Niskayuna? Don’t think I knew there was musky there

Or is it just musky baits fishing for pike?

I have intentionally caught walleyes on floating rapalas slowly moved on the surface. I have caught them on buzz baits and pop r''s while bass fishing.
