North Thompson River Chinooks
« on: Aug 19, 2006, 10:26 PM »
Hi Guys
Just got back this week from fishing on the Thompson River
by Clearwater.I did manage to catch 2 springs, one weighed
21 lbs,the second 29 lbs.Sorry no pics.Boy do they ever give
you a fight when they get into the fast current. It took 20
minutes to land the 29 pounder into the boat.
I did fish the Skeena River last year, all the anglers use spin &
glo's with roe out there with some success. On the Thompson
River the hooks to use are the Gibbs #5 F.S.T. in silver & blue
or the Gibbs Kitimat in orange and silver or orange & gold.
During the 10 days I spent out there,I seen approximately
20 fish landed in our area.I spoke to one local who has fished
this area for 15 years,he said the heaviest part of the run
starts around August 15.That is when the larger males start
to arrive.
Overall I am quite pleased with the results as I am pretty green
at fishing this river. Will be heading back next year, can't wait.
Cheers
HotHook.
