We took a group of students on a reward activity yesterday for all of the good work and community service they have done over the past year. This is some of the best and brightest students we have. We took them whitewater rafting down the Hudson river gorge in the central Adirondacks. 17 miles of wilderness rapids in some of the most scenic areas of NY. Well about halfway through the trip one of the students asked me if the river looped back in a circle to where we started. She was serious too. I asked her what she meant and she said that the river ride at the Great Escape (a local amusement park) circled back around to the beginning and she wanted to know if the raft ride we were on did the same thing. It was all I could do not to laugh as I explained to her that most rivers don't flow back to where they start.
