The day my wife starts bitching about the guns and fishing gear I buy is the day she will be the ex-wife

With the mild winter and higher water temps, I think it was an early spawn on the east end and the fish have dropped back to the lake. I heard that they were crushing them in the canal right up to the 3/15 close.

We definitely did well In the canal late February til the close I know the few times I fished it was a longer drive there and home than it was to grab my limit

I didn’t see much happening at the west end the other day with Ben either. Very slow opener for us.

This evening, I squeezed in a half hour fishing between dinner and my pool (pocket billiards) club, from about 6:15 to 6:45 PM, and went back to the same stretch of the South Hoosic in Adams/Cheshire (where I fished just a couple days ago), and did pretty much the same as the last time.

It was mostly sunny and about 70 degrees.

I started by Mullen Mayflower (n/k/a Berkshire Storage) in Adams, but didn't have any hits, so I walked back to my car and drove upstream to the Cheshire Harbor dam, where I reeled in a 14" brown (versus the 14" rainbow that I caught in the same spot a couple days ago).

Then I drove over to the Bellevue Cemetery and tried my luck at Bellevue Falls on Dry Brook, but didn't have any hits there, so I hustled to my pool club and shot poool for a couple hours.

Never in 75 years have I seen so few fish caught in the canal and fish creek.  The numbers have been backing off the past 7 years.  Something going on at East end . Past few years its been very quiet.  Rock pile was always good for a few smallies and perch.  Now it hard work to get a rockie or sheepie.  Might be the city of Oneida stocking Oneida Creek with brown trout ?  You know, the ones that are pointed on each end.  Might be the Sturgeon sucking up all the walleye eggs ??  They are stacked up at junction of canal and Fish Creek.  Hard to find pods of baitfish the past couple years.  Even the big alge bloom was minimal last summer.
Is it just me or have any of you noticed these things ??

Fired up the grill for our first dinner at camp. Ribeye steaks, roasted taters, and baked Vidalia onions. Perfect end to a good day.
