Be glad we are not in parts of the south
« on: Jul 26, 2018, 07:55 PM »
I'm getting reports of fish kills in ponds. Water temps close to 100 F. in ponds in Texas.

This is one summer that we've gotten higher rain fall or something.  River levels are up and lake levels are up.   It's a little strange to see this as most of my usual fishing spots with lots of sandy shoreline are all up to the weeds/reeds/trees...

This year also the city has issued, water conservation...well either everyone is following it, or pretty much no one needs to water their green lawns this year.  My garden hose haven't been used this year...

I know people in the south that brag how mild the winters are. But what price do they pay? As in hurricanes, more tornadoes, ice storms, heat waves, droughts, etc. No thanks I'll stay well north of the Mason Dixon line!

2 reported tornado's in Douglas and Upton MA yesterday. EF1's. You do not see that very often.

I am as far south as I want to be here in RI.

Back in the 50's Mom and I would spend a week at her Aunt and Uncles in Kokomo every summer. By weeks end I could not wait to get back to the shore line of Lake Michigan to get away from the heat. Luckily moms uncle belonged to the country club so I could spend some time at the pool. This was long before air conditioning.

The best part of the summer was spending a week at Gladstone in the UP. Pure Gods country. A ton of fond memories from up there.

Nope.
Reason enough for me to move south.
Never having to drill another stupid hole to fish.
Getting to use my boat all year.

Need I say more.

I like the fishing opportunities Mac and wish you well.  Kids in the bar with family at 2am freaked me out in Orlando.  It's different down there, but sometimes thats what one needs.

I have a grand daughter that took a teaching job out side of Phoenix. She has a pair of oven mitts in her car. When she get in it to drive after it sets in the sun at school all day she has to put on the oven mitts as the steering wheel is to hot to hold with her bare hands. Her school year started a week ago so the kids that do not have air have a cool place to be during the day.

It may be a dry heat but I will take the heat and humidity in Michigan any day.

But it's the dry heat, lol! I lived in Phoenix for about a year, record temp that year was 117 degrees. I moved there in the winter, by April I was saying it was too hot. By summers end, I got the heck out of there and came back to New England. Plus the city was a bit big from my liking. The rim country is nice though.
