In most ny waters a limit of 9 inche crappie would be a great feat increasing length was stupid also reducing gill limit was equally stupid
-
I agree more fish sharing the same food source, yep that math adds up 🙄
-
The best news 5 walleyes per person, for those who can catch them.
hinkydo

Or those who have to travel to get their..😎
-
I like the 5 walleyes, we can get 10 A trip now so we can fish another 1/2 hour. :D
-
I don't understand why they put walleye minimum length down to 12 inches on skaneateles in the back of the regs guide it says don't eat any from that water
-
I believe when the did there survey on Skaneatales the found a huge population of them but only a few over 15 in the whole lake. Lol. Even if they say not to do it people are taking them home.

does it state why not to eat the fish from there? seems goofy. pollution would be the only reason to ban consumption on a water. subtle population control maybe? lol
-
Actually I went back and looked it wasn't skaneateles it was owasco with consumption warning
-
It's a shame those warnings even have to be given
-
Maybe if they only tested the eatable parts the test results might be different
-
That's true and I am sure most contamination is in spine and skin like most others

ALBANY, N.Y. (WKBW) — The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is making changes to its freshwater fishing regulations that will take effect within the next two weeks.
Effective April 1, 2022, the DEC is changing its fishing seasons for some fish and the size limits for others:
Rainbow trout, brown trout and splake season for lakes and ponds is now year-round, with a five-fish daily limit, any size; a "no more than two longer than 12 inches" harvest rule applies.
Atlantic salmon now has a year-round open season statewide
Ice fishing is permitted on all waters in New York, unless specifically prohibited. Previous rules remain in effect in Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Warren, and Washington counties.
Statewide season openers for some fish have been replaced:
May 1: walleye, northern pike, pickerel and tiger muskellunge
June 1: Muskellunge. The DEC will allow for the fishing of muskellunge beginning the last Saturday in May to accommodate previously planned fishing trips for this year only
June 15: largemouth and Smallmouth Bass
A five-fish daily walleye limit is in effect for Oneida Lake
There is no more daily possession limit for walleye on Skaneateles Lake. Fish must be 12 inches minimum and the season is open year-round.
The statewide sunfish daily harvest limit has been reduced from 50 to 25 fish.
The statewide minimum size limit for crappie has been increased from 9 inches to 10 inches.
-
I don't think too many people are going to target eyes on Skaneateles. I think they just want those that happen to be randomly caught by people targeting other species to be harvested. Disclaimer: I base this opinion on nothing except my own random deduction.
-
My friend and I will definitely be making trips to target them just based on new regulations

Looks to me like many lakes will be getting overpopulated with panfish

I agree , more fish competing for the same amount of food , I could be wrong but this looks like it will lead to dinktom , not all bodies of water need the same limits , just my .02
-
I love the idea of bigger fish. This just doesn't make sense to me. So....to get bigger sunfish you need to take less, and only the biggest ones, but for walleye to get bigger you must take all the smal ones? How does that work?
-
Well the science must have changed like with covid 🤣🤣🤣
-
Wish there was some science involved in this process. I just do not understand the logic behind the idea that in order to get bigger sunfish we need to take only the biggest ones and not to many, but in order to get the walleye bigger in skineatles we need to take 12" fish and there is no daily limit.
-
They dont want any walleyes in skanaetels lake thats why there no closed season no limit suprised they put 12in size limit on them,,, An def dont want big wallleyes
-
Oneida 1 spot on they want them eradicated , thing is eyes have been there a very long time , if they set nets and shocked creeks they might improve their objective
-
Eyes love the little lakers. They are an oily fish, should grow fast on them….
-
haven't found anything but perch, rockies, smallmouth and crayfish in the eyes I've cleaned from that lake, bugs too. Stock bigger trout. Pic w mixed bag all from same depth.

-
That is a great mixed bag. Those eyes look healthy!
-
I agree with electro shocking to remove the eyes if that's what they want netting would be a disaster for the trout caught in it but that cost money so they won't commit to it if they want them gone why even have any size limit at all just ask fisherman not to release any
-
Nice bag mcully
I read there is a lake out west that has an over abundance of eye , if memory serves no limit or size , and it’s a smash fest
-
I was going fishing tomorrow but decided not to,,,, a 4 mile walk and keep 2 trout over 12",I'm done fishing lakes back in,60 years of fishing since my first trout in a pond--NYS stocked this lake for 60 years lately they put 800 a year in it and only a few fish it.It holds large brookies and I only fish about 3-4 times a year thats counting streams and pond,,,,,,Thanks NYS-PS,I own 170 acres of vacant land and have 2 trout streams on my land I don't fish them I do let fish anyone who ask me and in 10 years I paid $33,000 in land taxes,,,thanks again nys.
-
That should be sent to them as should all opinions like it
-
I hear what you are saying Joe. My Dad knew just about every pond that had a trout in them and he fished them all. He never cared for boat fishing.
Some of those ponds that Beauchamp use to fish must have some "big" ones dying off...lol...h2l

If the DEC did that, they could invite all the natives from St Regis to come spear and club all they wanted...In their frenzy of killing I'm pretty sure Rainbows would also be taken along with anything else they come across...let's see how well that would go over in beautiful downtown Skaneateles...
-
didn't the US go back into Iraq because Saddam didn't live up to the treaty he signed ???? is the American government just as bad?
-
Makes zero sense…..

Far as rainbows it depends if they are spring or fall spawners , back in the day It was done with salmon and trucked them to the hatchery to be stripped , that was when Les Wedge was I charge
