Title: Most comfortable and best stand up kayak?
Post by: taxid on Aug 21, 2022, 07:32 PM
Although I don't have much time for fishing these days due to family health issues I do have a lot of time to dream about fishing. I have a nice Hobe kayak but standing up isn't a good option as not only is it scary to stand up on there isn't a good flat place to stand on, and it didn't come with a very comfortable seat. I built a seat for it but still after a  couple of hours my back gets sore, although this could be partly due to age.

Anyway for you kayak owners who do you think has he most comfortable seats and stable kayaks for standing that are also pedal drive? I was on a gin clear pond several years ago where if I could have stood up I could have done some fun sight fishing. Not to be with this kayak.

Thinking of trading it in some day in the future for a different model.

Here's what I have now and I've built a few things for it such as stabilizers and other added extras. Hobes aren't cheap but I got this one for half price in new condition as a show room model several years ago.

I have an Old Town Sportsman 120 PDL. Its very stable, lots of room, excellent seat, lots of deck space for standi n g.
Like the rest of the high end pdl kayaks, the price is high.
When you have time, you should go to dealers and try the Hobbie and Old Town kayaks. The Old Town pdl system definately out performs Hobbie (see reviews on Youtube)

Take a look at Native Kayaks, very comfortable adjustable seat and bulletproof propeller drive system if pedal drive is preferred. There are a number of models with and without drive systems and are very stable well built vessels. I have a Native Slayer Propel 10 with sidekick wheel system and it’s great for me in my mid 60’s. Converted a single jet ski trailer to transport.

I think you are going to get a ton of opinions based on what people own. I can tell you I have a Wilderness Systems Ride 115 and have no issue standing in it. MY buddy has a Jackson and also loves his. If you are within driving distance from a shop, id say go try them out and ask a ton of questions.
