Getting back to the recipes,i really never would think of eating one but i have kept carp and used them.
I'm into gardening big time and have ''planted'' them for fertilizer after scaleing them and removing the lips. The scales make good poker chips and i use the lips to hold my tomatoe plants up on the steaks.

Are you serious about the poker chips and the tomato plants?

We soak corn for a few days with sugar and jello or kool-aid + whatever sweet fruity junk catches our fancy, then boil for 2 or 3 hours, and use this for groundbait, as well as on the hair rig.  I just bought 50 kilos of corn for $14 at the feed store, and if I use this judiciously and prebait with boiled wheat as well (same additives) it might last all year.  I remember when the big scare was on about trout eating corn, and I'm glad it's over.  I'm going to grow a carp the size of a freakin' dog! ;D ;D ;D

A note on the practice of "Chumming" in the state of Colorado.

Please forgive me as I know that this is off the topic of bait recipes but it has been touched on in this thread and my intent is strictly to help people avoid breaking the law and possibly getting into trouble.

Chumming, whether it be corn or any other substance not on a hook, is forbidden here. The first section cited defines chumming. The second section cited prohibits it.

Colorado Division of Wildlife Rules and Regulations
Chapter 1 - Fishing
Article 1 - General Provisions
#100 - Definitions

"Chumming" means placing fish, parts of fish or other materials upon which fish might feed in the waters of this state for the purpose of attracting fish to a particular area in order that they may be taken, but such term shall not include fishing with baited hooks or live traps.

Chapter 1 - Fishing
Article 1 - General Provisions
#103 - Manner of take
10. Bait
      a. Bait may be used as an aid in taking, exept by chumming, in accordance with regulation #104(G).

carp can fully digest corn trout can't. I feed my left over corn to the carp in the no fish area at lake nockamixon and i can reconize individuals.  The one carp with a missing whisker will eat right of your hand. He must have eaten a whole can of corn to himself this year and he doing just fine.

Just wondering what you use for carp baits? Do you chum, anyone use boilies or ball baits?

Here's my favorite mixture;
equal parts of
All Bran Cereal
dried whole milk
ground dead minnows
creamed corn
Corn meal
crushed rabbit food (the little green pellets)
Sometimes I add a tablespoon of strawberry jam

Mix well and add enough blackstrap molasses to bind the mixture and roll onto nickle sized balls.

Tie the balls with egg sack mesh and freeze til used.

Keep some loose (untied) in a plastic bag and chum the area with the crumbled mixture.
This mix has never failed . ;)

Do the crushed minnows have to be dead?  ;D
