Advice - Fly Rod for Salmon/Steelhead
« on: Apr 28, 2012, 03:16 PM »
So I'm starting to save up for a new fly rod to use for salmon and steelhead - I was wondering if anybody has advice based on what they use and like.  I fish the Salmon River in NY a lot.

First off, I'm looking at either a 7 or 8wt.  Is one better or more versatile than the other, keeping in mind that I want to use it for both salmon and steel?  9', 9'6", or 10'???

Cost is an issue, but I can work overtime hours if it helps get me into something I really want :)  Most important thing to me is to find something I'm going to really enjoy and hold on to for a number of years without wanting or needing to replace it.

Any thoughts or advice are much appreciated, thanks!
