Just seems natural that this topic should go along with favorite species.
I like to fly fish dry flies and nymphs in small rivers and streams for brookies the most. Once the water warms up and that turns off in late June, I like to switch over to spin casting and trolling streamer flies from my canoe or belly boat in ponds and lakes for brookies and bows.
I also like to fly fish bass poppers in the lily pads and cat-tails on the surface at that last hour before sunset during the hotest part of August. The bass usually are very aggressive then and the bite can become quite insane at times! ;D

Any kind of topwater bite! I'm a bass enthusiast. Mostly fish with jigs, plastics, spinnerbaits, and topwater. Bout covers it!
Oh, I love to fly fish too for anything that wants to bite!
This thread could go on for ever. I could post another 50,000 times on it alone, LOL! ;D

top water all the way....

For Smallie's I like tube's & jig's. I really like any soft plastic's. I hardly ever use plug's anymore.
-
For pike I like a spinerbait right over the top of the weeds.
For bass I like a tube jig.
For panfish I like anything that catches them there all fun.
-
I would swear I allready answered this and maybe I did. Anyway, I love to fish crankbaits. There is nothing better than your bait getting slammed by the Bass and Pike!!

Hey Jon, wny angler - where do you guys float drift boats for steelheads? Do you go to Pulaski? Or are there other places that the fish run?

what i meant by drifting a float was --fishing egg sacs under a bobber (float) with the current--i'm a land lubber,i like the feel of the cold water against my waders

Me too. I mostly fish with waders or wade wet when the water is warm enough. I also have a float tube and a canoe to get into lakes and ponds. I have never drift boat fished. Saw it on some outdoor programs and it looked fun. Thought that was what you were talking about...

Keep that boat a trolling...
Yep, I enjoy going after the big trout and walleye trolling

I like to long line dixie spinners for walleye before the weeds get too bad and the prop chop covers the surface fouling up the rig. I like to sit with a leech and a beer and some good friends for bullhead at night. A nice slow drift for some good crappies is fun as well. I like it all, it's all good.

Is there such a thing as a favorite method?
I just like catching fish.
My all time favorite fishing is flyrodding for carp in streams and rivers.

Cider,
I was talking as well about floating egg sacs and spikes under a float/bobber.

Golden bass Ok Kid we got to get this ice fever down, it's blocking your good judgement these carp have to go. You need to pursue a real game fish, like old bucket mouth. uote]

I figured as much... I was hoping you were talking about fly-fishing from a drift boat. Never floated eggs or spikes before though. I saw a show the other night on salmon fishing in Alaska where they were using candied eggs tied in a loop of line that was run through a treble hook to hold the eggs on (no sac was used). Looked very effective considerind the fish they were catching!
Where do you fish for steelhead? Just general body of water will do I am not looking for specifics...
-
Anything that wants to bite
From golenshiners to pike, I love steelhead fishing which when the creeks clear a little here in WNY i will be on them. then get the boat out and go for Crappies and other panfish then Walleye, Pike and the beutifull Bullhead. Like I said anything that bites. This year I am going to try carp fishing on a flyrod.

Just one? No way! Well, if you twisted my arm I would have to say that smallmouth fising in Lake Ontario is one of my favorites. We usually drift live bait while casting shad raps and husky jerks. Nothing like sore arms the next day from catching so many fish. :D
-
Cider,
Yup I use egg sacs and spikes. I use jigs just like we use for ice fishing with that combo. essentially i could go crappie fishing with the same setup.
General body of water, I guess you would say lake ontario. I fish private tribs mostly. One spot is my honey hole with about 1.5 miles of creek access. I do take some people there, if you interested let me know.

Drift fishing in rivers for smallmouth and dry fly fishing for trout.
-
Too tough a question to answer as I use every method that is so far known . LOL . Even have a whole system on hooking into real estate but it can be costly but easy to learn . LOL ;D
-
Jigging is my favorite way to catch any fish espesially walleye but I'll do anything it takes to put my limit of 'eyes in the livewell.
-
I love it all, Steelhead, crappie, smallmouth, pike and walleye. A bucktail jig with a 4" twister tail is my all time best go-to lure. Deadly on Pike in the spring time

Like most everyone here, I love it all! But, I am a bait fisherman at heart. I love fishing with a live minnow and a slip bobber. From a 1 inch fathead to an 8 inch sucker. That has to be my all time favorite method, you never know what you're going to catch. In fact, just this morning I had a dream I was fishing a fat chub and catching smallies. ;D
-
Trolling for walleye in shallow water (15'-20'of water) with rapalla's or worm harness's in the early season is always a pretty good time! ;D
-
trolling, trolling, trolling....

Keep that boat a trolling...
"CRANKBAITS"
Yep, I enjoy going after big walleye trolling & slip bobber jigging
-
I must say that my favorite way for smallies is dragging a spinner bait across the bottom at night.
