Title: What to feed big suckers in bait tank
Post by: charlys1954 on Mar 27, 2020, 02:52 AM
Anyone keep a bait tank with big 10-14" suckers. I have a 50gal barrel for a bait tank and want to keep big suckers in it. Anyone else do this, what do you feed them.

I have another tank that I have a few 5-6" creek chubs in I feed them dog food all winter, would this work for the suckers. I'd like to keep some all summer to use for fall musky fishing. I've had no luck catching suckers last fall so I thought I'd try to keep some all summer, it is sucker spawn season right now and they're easy to catch. Keeping them alive all summer may not be so easy.

Sucker fish prefer vegetable matter as treats, but also like sinking shrimp pellets. They also eat canned peas, canned green beans, cooked and cooled zucchini, raw zucchini and cooked and cooled peas. If the treats will not sink, they can be added to a small device called a produce clip.

I catch them all the time while trout fishing on small red worms.
So I would try them also here and there.
