So Grump, that is a Lake Sturgeon??  I didn't know they got THAT big.  Thats a giant, even for white sturgeon.  What a hog!  Looks like they released it.  Imagine how old a beast that massive is :)

lake sturgeon...and they get even bigger than that....but this would  be a rare catch by todays standards.....around the turn of the century, one was caught in the Roseau River southeast part of Manitoba that was 15 or 17'...Lake Winnipeg produced a tremendous amount of sturgeon before it was commercially fished to collapse in the late 1800's...they're still out there....nice one huh?....Grump

I wonder how old that fish is?  100 + at leaste?  Could be closer to 200, any chance they took a guess (or better yet a scale?)      Would be neat to know how old it was.

Wow I'm surprised its that small. They tagged one in a lake where my cabin is and it was just a hair under 10ft. They didn't weigh it but however was caught on a set line by fisheries. I could fish for them when the sockeye are spawning but fishing for them there is illegal :nono: but I would think that would be an easy record to break.

A fish that big is common down in lower Fraser. But alot of fish caught by guides are never brought to boat due to line breakages, anglers giving up and cutting the line....etc ::)

I looked back at the pic that was forwarded to me, and its highly unlikely that fish came from the LOTW system.....note the angler holding the rod....thats not something that an angler heading out on the Rainy River would use unless they were specifically targetting sturgeon...me thinks its out of the Fraser River in B.C. as posted above....Grump
