I finally gave up on ice fishing and put the gear away.  It was time for some spring run Lake Ontario trout.  I went out to Western New York with a couple of my buddies, with Scott playing the role of guide.  He sure put us on some fish  ;D.  It was also great fishing both weekend days and not seeing just about any other anglers on our water.  With the exception of some suckers (catfish bait), all of our fish were released.

The water was awefully clear in the small creeks we were fishing. The fish were very spooky, and holed up under the cutbanks.  I found that a light fluorocarbon leader helped a bit, but it made it next to impossible to land anything of decent size with all of the wood cover in the creek we were fishing.  Most of my fish came on egg fly patterns.

Here is Ryan hooked up with the biggest fish that we saw on the trip, a VERY large steelhead.

unfortunately for Ryan, the fish beat him in a race downstream.

Here's a neat action sequence with Scottie showing us how to do it.  Notice he is wearing shorts and sneakers - no waders.  It was only 45 degrees out, folks  :cookoo:

Hooked up and running after it

cutting the fish off, keeping it from breaking the riffle.

beating the chromer down

a fancy looking trout

A few of mine

Dave hooked up on one.

Ryan with a solid fish

I was able to sneak up on a good sized steelhead and get a pic of it holding underwater.

The it saw me and took off upstream

A chunky hen

Ryan with a drop back (spawned out) male that had a nice kype

I even got a brown!

Awesome color on this nice male - compare it to the size 13 wader shoe

It was a great weekend.  We all caught fish.  I ended up with 9 bows and steelhead total, plus a brown, a northern pike and a couple of suckers.

Next weekend its going to be even more TROUT! ;D hopefully ::)

very nice play by play post, Lance. You are the king of the fishies, WTG  :thumbup_smilie: Those are some great shots and some beautiful fish, man you make me jealous. I want to be like Lance.  Excellent report bud, hope to have the boat in the water soon.  8)
Fishing isn't a matter of life or death, it's much more important than that!

I live with FEAR everyday, and sometimes she lets me go fishing!

Awesome fish Lance!!  Hopefully I will get out there sometime to catch some trib. trout.  Maybe this will be my year to get out there.
Oh Lord,
There he is.
Feels like a big one.
Please don’t let me lose him.
I’ve never caught one this big before.
I’ll try not to horse him.
And if I land him I promise to release him
And make a graphite replica...
If my wife says it’s okay.
Thank you for the Rapalas.
Amen.

Pyont! nice goin dude....that first bow your holding has to be one of the most vibrantly contrasted bows i have ever seen,  its almost like the green on a peacock bass and has a pefect stripe and a nice fat rosey cheek, unreal! Looks like you guys all had a productive weekend  :thumbup_smilie:
