Title: Prospecting
Post by: bogtrotter on Dec 03, 2022, 10:57 AM
I went prospecting along the South Hoosic in Adams from 10 to 10:45 AM, and though I didn't catch a glimpse of gold, I did reel in a rainbow.

The morning was rainy and cool (48 degrees), and the stream was high, but not outrageously so.

My usual go-to spots didn't produce, but fortunately an underperforming one (which looks good but only seems to hold fish maybe 1x in 40) yielded a nice 14" rainbow.

Do you use a metal detector and then pan or just pan?

Sorry, I was being metaphorical - - "prospecting" as in searching for troutv -- just for a little literary variety in my post.

I've never actually panned for gold - - although I do recall there were a group of guys who would do so when my Dad and I and our fishing buddies would go up to the Wild Ammonoosuc in NH around Memorial Day each year back when I was a teenager.

Well, we don't have much gold or golden trout in MA...
