Wood always mazes me. It lives on way after its supposedly dead.

We should be  so lucky.
If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

I’ve got a pile of exotics that I bought for ring blanks that I’m going to make more from. I figured out how to use the boring bar I bought for the ring work to hollow the ornaments and make them pretty light. My Bride gets one turning a day till  Christmas.

The zebra wood ornament had a near failure. It cracked when I turned it around and mounted it on the chuck after hollowing out the inside. The hole I drilled was off center and when I was trying to get it to run true, I screwed up. I was able to repair it without much trouble. It’s tricky turning something that small and fragile.

They don’t bore very well with a Forster bit. The grain will pull the bit off center and make a hole that’s not on center. The boring bar  corrects that problem so it runs true when I mount it to the jaws from the inside. I should probably take one of my sets of forstner bits  and cut the shanks down they’re not so long. Kind of like a stubby drill bit.

The only finish on those two is a light coat of finishing wax. I sanded them to 12,000 grit micro mesh. It always amazes me how they progress through the sanding process.

Fun stuff to play with.

Today’s ornament for my Bride.

Purple Heart.
15 to go…..that alone might be a challenge.

Santa sleighs and reindeer in progress.

Gotta put some antlers on those critters.

Very nice.
I saw a video somewhere they were making hummingbird houses to hang outside in the spring..

Yeh, but, hummingbirds are not cavity nesters. So, houses are not their thing. They nest in really slender branches, mostly overhanging near water.

Makes me crazy when people label something that’s completely inaccurate just because they think it’s cute.
