Now the lakes are working. Crappies, gills and could this be the start of Rockies? Still trying to forget March and April. I'm smiling again :)

Now that I have rockies on my mind, I am to a loss as to why I can't fin d them in Sodus the last few years. Used to have a lot of fun there but lately nothing. I know that guys have been getting them the past few years, just not me. A little wrong time, wrong place. If anyone wants to share when they start there, please let me know. Don't have to tell me exactly, just when they start running and I'll sniff them out.
Thanks.

Thanks

Anyone know what kind of fish this is? I've caught them ice fishing and early spring but never as much as I have this year. I Took the kids bullhead fishing and they're all we could catch! I've heard them called rudds's but Im dont know what they are for sure. There's hundreds swimming the shallows in conesus.

That's what is looks like to me....surprised there are a lot.  They are an invasive species.

That is a Rudd, an invasive species from Europe. Very similar to the native golden shinner but get much bigger, and they can interbreed so it causes issues IDing them.
"You know when they have a fishing show on TV? They catch the fish and then let it go. They don't want to eat the fish, they just want to make it late for something." - Mitch Hedberg

that's a  rudd sometimes  they are more  orange too .....

Rudd is an invasive fish native to Europe that has been found in scattered locations in the lower Great Lakes. A member of the minnow family, the fish was introduced to the United States in the early 1900s, likely through the bait trade

I love to catch, don't care to eat them.  I keep a few for others that really like them.  8" to 10" range for the pan, over 10" I usually release for another day.  Gotta respect the aggressive little rascals.
Bigger isn't always better but Size definitely Matters!
