Had the same problem on and off for years with my magneto and it was worse on hot days. Would run on only one cylinder. Then both would start crapping out. Chipped away at all the black epoxy to get down to the connections and solder joints. Resoldered everything and cleaned all terminal connections and it started working again like new!

I had one of those motors years ago. One day it fell off the back of my boat driving to my fishing hole. I was so fed up with it I left it there. Had nothing but problems with it.

that was built by mculloch I think.  napa has many outboard parts.

get it running and sell it.  buy anything old(60s-80s) OMC aka Johnson/evinrude.  parts everywhere and easy to work on and many years/HPs interchange.

stay away from old mercs and chryslers too!
