we make it a 4 day weekend up there in January...its only a 3.5 hr drive for us....we go to Irondequoit mainly, but a friend of ours who lives in Hamlin told us the walleyes are nice and perch are bigger, although fewer... we also keep a boat up there in Sandy Creek Marina when we troll lake ontario for kings. I like the area there since its not as jammed as Oswego, although Rochester itself isnt too appealing to us  :-\...but we're not there to sightsee, just fish!  ;D

Plenty of good eats in Rochester!  I've had better chicken wings there than in Buffalo, Garbage plates are always a good bet, can't go wrong with a few packs of Zweigel's White Hots...and if you like micro breweries, Rohrbach's is a good spot.
