They do in NY.

It will depend on the type of bottom substrate in the lake.  If you have shallow areas with gravel/cobble then there is a good chance they will try.  Success will depend on the environmental factors encountered post spawn.

The PH of the water has a lot to do with it to be successful, Walleye always go through their spawning mode, its up to the differant conditions if they hatch
If it was easy they would have called it catchin, not fishin

So I understand walleye spawn in shallow water. What is considered shallow water? If you have a lake with avg depth of say 20'? Thanks in advance.

They will spawn in sand and gravel on a windswept shoreline that keeps the eggs oxygenated.

So is depth irrelevant?

The walleye around here spawn mostly in the creeks coming into the reservoirs. They're only 6 foot deep in deepest spots.

Good to know. Our inlet is more muddy but I know of some flats nearby as well as some shallow shoals and bays. Will have to check them out.

Thanks Mike

Fish the creeks as soon as the season opens a lot times the fish are still there for a few weeks
