The main sections of the larger ponds and lakes were going fast over a week ago, and with temps in the 50's, it will go even faster.
Sure, some protected coves might hold ice longer, but overall I'd say by Easter (4/4-4/5) most of the waters will be unfishable on ice because the shores will be shot by then. Ice out, maybe by 4/10.

I took a ride up to winnie today, from meredith (pretty much unfishable by boat) over to weirs beach still plenty of ice. Saunders bay still socked in, open water from just north of glendale up past Ellacoya. North of there to alton its socked in right up to the bandstand..That is as far as I went, with the rain and wind forecast for tomorrow and monday I doubt it can hold up much longer..

Thanks for the report, bikrsrule.

Broads look wide open. White caps. Ice still in alton Bay from the bandstand to about the end of the bay. Wind is doing major damage

a lake a group of us were fishing 9 days ago on 18" of  solid ice is now white caps.. the wind this season has raised havoc with the fishing and the ice.. I'm glad to see it go quick, less chance of someone being led to temptation and making a fatal mistake.

Ice in alton Bay has pushed into echo point. Going quick. Only problem you might have launching there is if the ice gets pushed into the ramp.

If you had a choice, would you fish alton bay, saunders bay or meredith bay the weekend opener?

I always fish Alton Bay since it's barely an hour from my house.  Other launches are considerably further.  Gas ain't cheap anymore, neither.

Alton is close so probably there, but also tends to be a circus.

Just went by Winnisquam in Laconia. From the F&G ramp you can get down river to the lake, but still large patches of ice drifting. Rain tonight and tomorrow will improve the waters.
