stained water-what's your approach?
« on: Jun 12, 2010, 04:38 PM »
After spending a week in the Catskills with gin clear low water, I returned home to high and stained water! What's your approach to this condition? I used my tandem or dropper rig with a big dry and a beaded hares ear nymph? how do you think I did? There was a hatch going on and I had the place to myself! What more could you ask for except clear water!

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

One stream I fish is stained, I use GIANT flies there. Don't even bother with the size 18 and 16, use a size 10 or 8 with a lot of flash so they can see it.

i like that idea! By the way I got 16 on the nymph and one on the dry!Should have tried a streamer or a wooly bugger, as well. :) :)

I usually swing big buggers and streamers through the seams. Typically size 6 and 8 but I have a few size 4s in the fly box for that just barely fishable water.....
We were biting this morning, we were biting this morning, we were biting this morning......
