My buddy Ed and I went mushrooming this morning and found a fair number of hen of the woods.
The weather was overcast, but the rain generally held off (aside from some lightl sprinkles) while we were on our mission.
Along the way we stopped at a package store (where I picked up a bottle of Portugese vinho verde wine) and a butcher (where we gave the owner, whom Ed is friendly with, some of our extra mushrooms).
Afterward, I went fishing on the South Hoosic in Adams from 12:45 PM to 2 PM .
At that point, it was about 65 degrees and drizzling.
I caught four decent-sized (7" to 9") wild brookies just above where Dry Brook enters the river (just below the Old Stone Mill).
Then I headed to a private pond where I landed six small (9" to 11") rainbows, and kept one that I accidentally bled while landing.
By then, the temperature had dropped (to 60 degrees) and the rain picked up to a steady downpour, so I was utterly soaked.
I headed home a little before 4 PM and, after a hot shower, cooked and ate an early supper - - chicken sauteed in olive oil and port wine with mixed (dandelion, dock and mustard) greens, olives, a couple different kinds of peppers, carrots, celery, chives, corn, some of our haul of hen of the woods mushrooms, and ground cherries - - chased down with half of the bottle of vinho verde that I'd bought earlier in the morning.
However, because I had not eaten anything since breakfast, I found that I was still famished, and so proceeded to consume a second dinner (leftover corned beef and cabbage) before posting this.
Now I can relax and enjoy a jammy night.
