Waxworms
« on: Mar 07, 2006, 07:40 AM »
I have a bunch of waxworms left over from the ice season. Have any of you had success using them in the softwater? If so, I'd appreciate any tips on presentation.

hawg, I use them all year for panfish. I use a small jig--64oz or 32oz tube jig under a bobber tipped with a waxy. Jig colors vary depending upon the clarity of the water. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I've used them for perch and crappie too in the spring. Usually on an ice jig or a small gold or red hook under a stick bobber. The kids have a ball with that kind of rig, me too for that matter! ;) ;D

my first couple panfish outings after iceout I have done well with waxies. Those fish are stressed and they are looking for a small easy meal.

I'm using them right now for gills. Well, not RIGHT now.  You know what I mean.  #8 aberdeen hook under a float, in and around the pads.  Use a light enough hook that you can straighten it instead of losing it to the pads.  Some days the red hooks work better, some days they want the gold ones.  Make sure you cover the hook point.
