There's a rumour that it may of been caught a couple of times in the 1940's but it wasn't a well known carp by European standards. The gravel pit is supposedly only 12 acres ....... and this fish hasn't been caught (and reported, anyway) for 60 years. So that could be an 80 or 90 or even a 100 year old fish. I think that makes a case for c+r .... I mean it is a world record.
Hey for all we know there could be one like that in MY lake! I know there's a 64 in Hamilton harbour... they're calling it Red October.

Oh man what a fatty! I would love to get one like that, it's possible in N. A. I guess, hell, I have a feeling my litte carp pond might have one bigger - it had a 50 so who knows?

Sweet. The largest 10 in Manitoba since 1991 are 37.5"-42.5"...I'm not sure how that converts to weight, but they are a blast. My wife caught 2 this year at 31.5". They are really catching on here too.
It would be nice to think that there are some approaching the size of that fish around here....

I'm not sure how that converts to weight,
It all depends on the fish..... there is no foolproof conversion system for carp because they can be chunky, slim, long, short......... the males as a rule are longer and more torpedo shaped. A good set of scales and a weighing sling are the only way to tell. You can wiegh them in a big rubber net but larger mesh nylon nets will rip their scales off. I think the approved method of weighing in a net is to stand on the bottom of the net and pull upwards on the scales until the desired weight is achieved!
