even tho I been chasing  panfish ,I been using the flyrod  a lot ...my personal  choice has been scuds, bead head pheasant tails and lose  tied bead head hares ears .....it's no secret that  sunfish and crappies are stacked in  all their favorite shallow water spots if you never flyfished for panfish before now is a great time to  attempt it  you'll have a ball

You bet I've gotten away from it for a while but do like how it lays the fly in there so light. I like how it floats the fly in there.

Well trapper,

That was the Mrs. and my intention this past Saturday. The ice finally went off two of my favorite local waters just over a week ago. It was the only day we had off together so we decided to take my little boat out for panfish rather than battle the opening day (PA trout) hordes. Unfortunately it was a bust. Both places were very dirty with only about 8" of visibility so I know the fish weren't seeing our offerings. Oh well, better days are coming and I just put some new Rio weight forward line on my 3 wt. rod.  ;D

when I was young I fished with a gent  that went by the name of old hickory (neil)  anyone that  knows  salmon rivers  history knows neil  anyways we had a unbelievable hatch on the beaver kill  and I couldn't get a  rise  fish boiling finally neil said trap  let me see  your fly ...he smashed it  ,flattened it right out and said try it .....I took fish after that! sometimes you DON'T want to match the hatch you want a crippled fly......big lesson...........the info I give  out in here.....

Trap, is that the same gentleman who was a writer for a newspaper or magazine? Something rings a bell with that name....just curious. Great story bud!

As the old saying goes, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". That's especially true when YOU BE HOLDING a beauty you caught on one of your own home ties!  ;D

We got a lot of rain locally overnight Monday (of course I had Tuesday off) and the creeks were running high and dirty. In hopes that our local stream would drop and clean up enough to be fishable by late afternoon I sat and tied up some #12 flash back Pheasant tails with a fine copper rib and copper bead head. I used the large size gold holographic tinsel for the flashback. The first two stops I made were a bust because the creek was still too dirty, but near the top end of the stream where it's much faster and smaller, I caught four nice Brook trout (stocked) in the 10" range on my 3 wt. That end of the stream was rippin' but at least it had cleaned up good.
