I'd like to try that this year. My boat isn't all that big, but I've seen many days the lake was calm enough to try.
I've got down riggers and planing boards. Just have to do it.

Used to catch some nice Browns wading off Russel station years ago.

I have seen canoes and kayaks out there.
Keep your head on straight and watch the wind and weather and you will be fine.
I fished there through the late 70's and early 80's with a 16' Sylvain.
It had a deeper V than yours and a 60hp, but it was still a small boat.
Be smart and you will be fine.
Good luck.

If you see me out there in the next couple weeks wave...........or toss me a beer.

If you don't have a marine radio at least get a NOAA weather radio. They are helpful. Here on Lake Erie, the old adage of if you see black clouds, it's to late, your in for a bumpy ride cause you ain't gonna out run it pretty much applies to Ontario too.
To make small fortune in business, start with a large one.

I ran a 16’ Sea nymph with a 40 back in the early 70’s. No problem. As always, pick your days.
Your dating yourself with those Riviera riggers.  ( mine are in the garage attack  ;D)
I bet we fished next to each other at Russel station.  I miss that warm water discharge. Had some great fishing there sometimes.

The station was great. You could fish in some nasty cold weather by just standing in the discharge water to warm up. It was wild having trout occasionally slam your legs as they attacked the alewives.

For years we fished out of a 14' Sea Nymph with a 1957 18 HP Johnson. Man did we have some fun.

I had a 14' sea nymph with a 9.9 for years. It was my first boat for the big lake. I had a 12' before that and it was stupid taking that thing anywhere. The 14 I took out a lot. I fished browns and stagers with it and mid summer I'd drift the niagara. It was a nice rig and I miss it all the time. I didn't even have pole holders. Each person was in charge of there own rods and if you ran 2 rods each it was a chore. Eventually I put in a few flush mount for holders to hold the board rods and long lines but you still had to hold the dipsy rod if we ran one. Wish I had a camera on the boat to record all the mayham. I actually traded that boat for a bayliner bass boat that wasn't any better in ruff water and needed a ton of work. Several boats later I still miss that 14' tin can the most.

Does anyone if fair haven is ice free? can I get out to the lake from the state park?

what about Sodus? is the coast guard launch open/ice free?

Don't know about fair haven. Sodus is mostly ice free a few big ice floating around yesterday.
