Jigging Lakers on Quabbin
« on: Aug 04, 2013, 04:37 PM »
Well with the weather report a little iffy for the salt, BaitBucket (Will) and I rented a boat on Quabbin for a little laker fishing. I had been wanting to try some jigging for lakers for a while now and this was our chance. With my Garmin clamped to the boat and my sea anchor over the side, we did mark a few fish, but never found a "School" of them. On Wills first drop he picked up a nice one and it took me a while to hook my own smaller one. I was happy with the results for a first time with a new technique and look forward to getting more fish in the future. At the ramp we talked with a few of the anglers coming in and we did better then the guys trolling...

Always a good time on the water.

Nice fish Will!  That's a great start!

Jigging lakers is supposed to be a very effective technique.  I've tried it once on open water and managed one laker for a one hour trial.  I had my ice fishing Marcum and never saw anything other than small bait when I hooked the laker.  Based on my limited success, I'd try again.  I found the hardest part to be holding position in the wind.  I started with a drift sock, but still drifted too much, so I used my electric motor to hold position.
Everyone believes in something.  I believe I'll go fishing.

Great job guys, nice looking laker.
If you have great friends, taunt them..... endlessly. Even if you don't have good friends taunt them just for the practice. This is the Gospel according to the GODs.

alan I here ya about the salt. couldn't get out all weekend. wish I knew u guys were goin there cuz I would have met you. that would have been cool in fact FRED and I went trolling sat am in the quinsig and we were discussing how much knowledge you have and how fast you are to help teach anyone interested in learning new techniques. keep up the great reports and I hope to see ya soon.

btw we each landed nice sized bows with 5 colors down and a few drops. fished from 530am to 830.
