Bows on the Bank
« on: Oct 24, 2015, 04:39 PM »
Did some light tackle river fishing for some trout today with Allan. We hit the water around 7 and the action was pretty steady all morning. I ended the day with 4 bows and a giant pike bait. Allan had 5 bows and a giant pike bait as well. The bows were all very healthy with big fat belles and around 17-18in.

Here are some pics of the scenery and our catch. All fish were released to live another day.

Thanks for sharing!

Are you sure that's not a Fallfish, a larger species of chub?

A creek chub gets to about 12 inches max. A fallfish about 19.

Real fish? Oh I get it, you are from Maine were bass don't count... I too might think more along those lines if I was fishing to catch my dinner, but I go to the salt for that. No, most all my freshwater fishing is "Selective Harvest" and I find bass and trout both fun (but different) to catch. I let the seasons and opportunities dictate what I will be fishing for at any given time... If I wanted to be a snob about my fishing I would fish just for Tuna in the NorthEast (with a fly rod of course) and look down my nose at any other fish that swims in the NE... But I am not and I have fun when a bass explodes on my frog in the pads, a trout rolls on my nymph, a blue chews through a plug, a cod slams my jig, watching a striper in a wave take my popper and many of the other great fish that we have here in the NE... They are all real fish...

Isn't it amazing how good cell phone pictures are these days?  I can remember when they were pretty bad.
