Posting google maps KMZ?
« on: Jun 16, 2007, 02:01 PM »
Hello;

I've gotten most of a fish management unit from the alberta fishing regulations loaded into google maps.  I'd like to post the kmz file so others could check my work.  (I don't know every lake in albert off by heart yet :-)).  Is this possible?

Ach I tried emailing a couple of google maps with the kmz format.  It didn't work out for me.  So what I did was print them out, then rescan them as regular pic files...gif, jpg ect then posted them as that format.  If anyone knows a easier way, share the info.

Yes, please.  The KMZ file is only 11k.  Putting it into gifs would use a LOT more space, and loses most of the utility of it.  If it's a kmz then people can use goole earth or google maps to read it and check out new fishing areas, get directions, distances, etc.

Ok.  What I've done is use google pages (pages.google.com, free 100Mb of webspace), to host the kmz file.

It's at http://achtanelion.googlepages.com/FMZ_PP2_2007.kmz

You can view it in google maps at http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http%3A%2F%2Fachtanelion.googlepages.com%2FFMZ_PP2_2007.kmz&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF-8&t=h&z=8&om=1

Hehehe...   I think that'd have to be a subscription service.  say $10,000,000 per year?  ;-)
