We also caught one with a transmitter, guess it had only been in the water a couple days and hadn't traveled very far.

While back I landed a walleye with a transmitter in it , fish only traveled about a mile in 2 weeks before she became a dinner
They want it back so they can insert into another eye

that is so cool Fred

Catching a fish with a transmitter is pretty cool. Glad Shane got his rod back, there are some honest people out there.

I've never seen one of those transmitters. How Big is it and where is it located in the fish ?

I had just read the article about the transmitter when I caught the fish with this one. the implant was so recent you could still see the incision and stitches on the fish's belly. Wish I had thought to take a picture of that.

It was a very fresh incision still looking red and swollen. The stitches were black and the knot was visible. We always flip them over once out of the net to see if they have a clipped fin from the hatchery  ;)

seems like a rather large item for a 20 " or so fish to have poked into his belly. By comparison, a 6' person would have close to a 6" club in his belly. ouch

Who is doing the study is it the state or some college or dec.

Cornell.

Telemetry study - They will tag 100 walleyes this fall. Then another 100 walleyes will be tagged in the spring of 2024. There will be 64 receivers spaced around the lake every 2 kilometers (sunken buoys designed to hopefully not be snagged). The data will not be real time. If we catch a walleye with an internal tag we should save the tag and there will be a phone number / email address to contact Cornell to return the tag.
