caught it in the canal and i'm not sure what it is. looks like a big shinner.

looks like a white perch, or a pail funny colored white bass, but prolly a perch

white perch for sure. with white perch the only stripe they have is the lateral line. their mouth and eyes resemble that of a yellow perch as well. white bass have lines in additional to the lateral line

white perch have purple around there jaw, very noticable,
unlike a silver bass,

     I also caught one in the canal ice fishing this winter and was told it was a white bass.. ??? ??? ??? ???

They look similar and are often referred to as the same fish...

Looks like a white prech to me as well. White prech has a purple tint on bottom jaw. If it was a sliver bass there wouldn't any purple on the bottom jaw.

lake ontario pirrannah (wite perch ) very tasty they get nice and big in parts of the canal to
