Trolling Live Shiners

I am going to be trolling using a dipsy diver and would like to troll a large live shiner.
How does everyone rig the shiner when trolling in fairly deep water?

I personally wouldn't use a dipsy...
I'd use bottom bouncer with a 2ft fluorocarbon leader and a slow death hook... hook that shiner through the nose

Even use a bottom bouncer if I won't really be close to the bottom?
I will be trolling in deep water sometimes over 100 fow.

The plan is to get down to 20 - 60 fow and get lucky for a salmon and maybe catch a few bronze backs in the process.

Ohhhhhh you're going way deep!!!! ?
I'd use the same method off a dipsy... long leader with a shiner hooked through the nose.. slow death would give it a twist as long as you use a barrel swivel ..
I've done well with this off bouncers on 30 fow for eyes

Yes, Very Deep! I attempt to troll for salmon every fall on Lake George unsuccessfully. 
It usually ends up being a nice boat ride until we decide to jig for Lakers.  I am hopeful that a shiner may entice some small mouth action and
break up the monotony of the "boat ride" while fishing for salmon.

I fish LG a lot but dont target salmon.  Later fall I have slayed smallies but they were exceptionally deep.  Suspended in 78 fow.  For the salmon a leadcore setup and db smelts would be more plausible than a large shiner.

What is a db smelt?

We only target salmon for a short while / until we get bored.  The Smallies will hopefully give us a little action.

Nice I dont bother with LG until the "boating season" closes and you dont need a LGA sticker.  (Oct 30)  salmon will be all over and deep in a couple weeks.

Hook the shiner right through the lip or using an adjustable bait harness (like a nightcrawler harness for walleyes). Main thing is going slow, like a slow walking pace.

Agreed. It can be a zoo out there, especially near the million-dollar boat launch. 
We were all ready to go last weekend, until we got to the launch, and it was jam packed.  Little did we know that
the King George Fishing Derby was taking place that day.  We immediately turned around and fished the river for Smallies and walleyes.
