Ice off 2023
« on: Mar 17, 2023, 06:19 PM »
So when is everyone's guess for ice off, Temps have really turned around here so might be a few more weeks and can get the boats out and do some open water fishing, just hope it is better than the ice fishing this year.

So here goes my guesses for around here April 16th for the small lakes and around April 26th for the big lake.

The river has started to open up a little bit but still going to be awhile.

Theres one small lake west of Cheyenne thats been open for a week. The lakes around wheatland should be completely open in another week.  Glendo might be two more weeks in that inbetween zone where theres ice but its not fishable.  Overall much later ice off than the past few years.  Some lakes above 7k could be another month.

North Platte River flushing flows to flush silt out of the trout spawning areas below Gray Reef are scheduled to start tomorrow and run for 9 or 10 days.  That will add a fair amount of water to Glendo and should help break up the ice.

So anyone seeing any signs of the lakes around them starting to open up, still looks.like a few more weeks up here for anything like that.

A few small ponds around Buffalo are starting to open up but it will be a while for Healey or Desmet, probably not until the end of April. We're about a month or so behind normal I'd say. The extended forecast after this system looks good so things are looking up. Put away the ice gear this weekend and started getting the boat ready.

Well might go and see how much ice is on one lake around here and fish a bit if I can get to the ice. With the Temps coming next week might start to make some ice start to leave a bit and add some water into the lakes that should be warmer to help.

Found this today on the lake, Temps this next week might make it start to get soft.

Might be getting close to some open water with these Temps and warm wind.

I was off on the ice off here, there is some open water in places but nothing open enough for the boat. Maybe by the 1st of May we might be open on tue little lake and the big lake still looking like middle of May, maybe fish along the shore around the lake in another week with a big ice cube in the middle.

Bay on boysen at the boat ramp opening up slowly, the rain today helped break some up a little more. Heard a couple guys fished for a bit with nothing to show for it so far but the trout might start moving in soon though. Need to check ocean and see if I can get the boat out soon and chase some walleye.

Seen 4 guys on the Camera today by the boat ramp fishing.  Heard that Ocean the color is really changing so wont be long for that one hopefully, some wind for the next couple of days might help as well. but some more moisture coming Friday with a little cooler temps but looks to be in the 70's by Sunday, flood here we come.

I was just looking and seen that, this wind today has been awful but did hurt the ice big time. Heard that there was a boat on bass lake yesterday as it was ice a couple days before. Ocean had ice this morning as well but it should be just like boysen and the ice should be ripped off as well.
