My partner and I went fishing Sat June 16th for most of the afternoon.
We arrived at the lake I have fished at the last couple of times and thought I would try it for a while.
The wild roses are in full bloom right now.
And there are pollinators amongst them.
The lake was like glass.
I fished in that area for about an hour. Fellow anglers from shore and in the boat both said they had not caught a fish all morning, not a good sign so we packed up and headed for a reservoir I have been meaning to try but never have.
This is my destination, Whitesand Reservoir,{thats me on the dock}.
There were quite a few anglers out today in this area, both human and bird alike.
These pelicans are done fishing for a while.
Loons and king fishers were also about, but too fast for the camera.
In the trees at the top of the hill there is a monument.
Here is the inscription on it.
It is a solemn reminder for everyone to be safe around the water.
My partner and I set up and started fishing.
In two casts my partner had on a junior pike, it went back.
Ten min. later I hooked a pike, this one is a good eater.
My partner and I get nibbles all afternoon from tiny 3 to 6 inch perch and walleye. Our lures were too big for the little nippers.
That reserivor is teaming with tiny fish life, in the fry to fingerling size.
Half an hour before we leave I hook into another pike, here is the results from that area.
There were a lot of shore anglers in that area and it seemed we were doing better than the folks in the boats. We were getting 2 or 3 fish and the boat anglers were comming back with 1 or 2.
I feel they may have been fishing too deep, my partner and I were catching them in 2-3 feet of water and that is were I saw a lot of little fish jumping and boils from larger fish.
We then thought we would explore the reservoir for new fishing locations. I found one, where the river flows into the reservoir.
I decided to try it for 10 min or so.
As I approached I saw what must have been a 3 - 4 lb walleye shoot from the shoreline into deeper water.
At least there is one fish around.
As I was fishing I saw a boil close to shore and cast just beyond it, as I went by the spot I had a hit.
This was the culprit.
It was also released.
On that positive note we decided to go for supper. We stopped at Queens Hotel in Sheho, for a nice steak and chicken supper. I would defiantely recommend this place to anyone.
Sheho is roughly 45 min or so West of Yorkton.
Sheho is the native word for prairie chicken.
Further down the highway we see some whitetail deer, outstanding in there field.
Along the trip home we find an entire herd of cows had broken out and were walking down the road, they then crossed into the farmers wheat field.
Father's day was a downpore all day long so no fishing that day! I was hoping to take my uncle fishing to the reservoir.
I took him to Sheho for steak instead.
I hope to return to this new found reservoir again sometime this summer.
