Title: Black Lake trip mid August with wife
Post by: krispcritter on Jul 02, 2021, 12:27 PM
Taking our first trip to Black Lake for a week in mid August. We have a place to stay with a dock right out the back door so the boat is coming too. Not looking for super secret hot honey holes but any tips to make the trip more enjoyable would be awesome. I will be entering the panfish marathon, for 10 bucks each for the week, why not.
If you don't want to post here, shoot me a PM.
Thanks MFF peoples.

What side of the lake are you staying on?
Around emery island  , bowmen island and hogback island were always good..
 Good luck..

My buddy is headed up there tonight for next 4 days.
I’ll post his info next week when I speak to him after he gets back.
Problem is that he will be bass fishing.

We fought the lake and the lake won. 5 days of fishing and tons of dink perch and gills. Wife landed a 17 1/2 inch 4 pound Bass and I landed a 5 pound 17 inch Bass. Lost a bunch of tackle to rocks and cut offs. On our last day, I burned up the water pump on the motor on the farthest part of the south end and we were staying on the north end. Thanks for the tow whoever the 2 Boston, Mass guys were. I will pay it forward. Must have grabbed a bunch of floating weeds because 1 minute all was fine and 2 minutes later motor was sizzling and smelled like burning rubber and melting plastic. Oh well, great trip none the less.

Sorry you didn't have a better trip. Sometimes it happens that way especially if you are new to a lake.

Thanks for sharing though!

Did you try minnows under bobbers for crappies?
And with this hot weather did you see any Gar on the surface  of the water?

Did try minnows under a bobber. Had better luck with worms, no crappie were legal, 4 to 6 inches and 1 was 8. No gar were sighted, but the Bass were jumping all over just not interested in any of our offerings.
