Darien Lake Closing ?
« on: Jun 27, 2006, 04:28 PM »
Heard on the radio that they may close the whole park .
I would be careful how far in advance you buy season tickets for next year or plan  your camping trips there .
I guess  the owners think the park isnt making enough money so they want to sell it to another park company or remove everything and develope the land .

i heard that on the news friday, they went to a family friendly format and lost all the teens that were going there, the teens are the ones that spend all the extra money on food, snacks, drinks, games, etc... this one isnt the only one that may be closing, the majority of the smaller ones are on the burner

Keep it up and theyre gonna end up like Fantasy Island .
Youre rite the fifteen to twentyfive age group are what keeps that park open and if they want to make some money they need to target them .
They need to work on a good concert venue and some practical ticket prices too .

doesnt sound like there closing....just a strategical sale for six flags

a new company buying it at a good price and investing money is a good thing for sure

  i make a yearly weekend trip....camping and boozing...always a good time...and very cheap imho

concerts however are another story......

i will never see another concert there . not that they have any i want to see...ozzfest possibly but sharon qzborne is a jiant b^$ch and its way way too mainstream...but thats another off topic entirly  ;)

i saw sepultura, biohazard and pantera there in 95...a few weeks before my high school graduation. anyother venue in the world general admission is floor front...so we bought lawn general admission...same right? wrong. the lawn is behind the seats...the seats go all the way to the stage......not a good situation at a real metal show. so we jumped the lawn fence and set up second row thanks to the lax security. during sepultura and biohazard..things were on edge but stable. during panteras first song, here comes the chairs bieng ripped up and tossed, the trees they had planted in there ripped out and burrned...phil anselmo (rip) arrested for assault and banned from ever playing near buffalo again(although they did a year later under a guise name....i was there too ;):):) )

well enough for that off topic rant...i guess it was a bad venue that made for an amazing show

I think I may go see him, if I'm back from my deployment. Just to round out my "legends I have to see list". I hear what you're saying about the whole Metallica thing too. I lost all interest when the black album  came out and every little kid and his sister ran around with the Wal-Mart special Metallica shirt on. Half of the world was in love with Metallica an 98% of them didn't even know who Cliff Burton was or ever evn heard "Jump in the Fire". Commercialism killed them and it was the fault of Mr. Rock himself.  How many people out there do you think knows that Mustaine got his start with them? Oh well. Excuse me while I perform a swan dive off of this soap box.

Six Flags Company seems to indicate that they feel the declining population base around here makes for low attendance, in addition to Cedar Point and Canada's Wonderland as competitors. I disagree. I feel they should study the demographics of the population base that they do have and realize that the majority of that base is not in an income bracket that would allow for a family of four to visit the park more than once a season at 36 dollars a head (outrageous, IMHO) plus parking fees, food costs, and even more money for games. You could take that family to a Bills game for less money. Drop that price to say 15 bucks, and I'd bet that many families would make multiple trips each season.
