Bluegills On The Fly
« on: May 19, 2021, 06:36 AM »
Put the carp gear away fro a few days. Got out the 2 wt and went after the gills.

Had a ball this morning. Don’t know how many I caught. The “Double Martini” was the ticket. They were hammering it just about every cast. If you don’t have those in your fly box ....you should.

Gonna have to stick to shore for a couple weeks. Made a really good deal on a new car. I’ll be taking the hitch off my current vehicle and hopefully using it on the next one.

No matter, I’ve got plenty of places to fish.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Simple tie and very effective.  #10>14. I use a 200 n-curve hook.

Only got a few this morning. Looked like a pretty good hatch came off last night. They’re probably all stuffed.

Gills were on fire this morning. Took a while to find them. Tried the fly rod for a bit with no takers so I motored back home and got the long rod and a few crawlers. Found a big school and switched back to the fly rod. They were really concentrated in an area about 20 yards long. All colored up to spawn so they went back unharmed.

When the sun got up around 8:30 they shut down. Fun morning.

I found a bunch last evening but no big ones - just small to medium sized ..... there was a LOT "sunning" on the surface ..... I'd cast and 30-40 would spook temporarily when it landed.  I think these would have taken a fly .... they bit my ice fishing dot with a little rubber jig on it as soon as it hit the water.....
