hybrid brown?
« on: Apr 24, 2011, 01:32 PM »
Went to a small stream the other day that is about a 3 mile 4-wheeler ride away from any road and had a great time.  Caught lots of fish plus all the trout species and one that I think may be a brown/brook trout hybrid.

Top to bottom, brown trout, brook trout, rainbow trout, and what I think is a hybrid on the bottom
Anybody else ever see this in a fish?

How long were those fish? It has the markings of a parr but looks to old?
It’s not being Cocky if you can back it up.

Brown parr. Could be of a suvspecies that grows larger, like a seeforrellen or could just be a late bloomer. Not a tiger at all

Thats what I thought at first, that  fish is about 10 inches which is actually a pretty big fish for the stream I was fishing, but I also caught a couple browns in the 6-7 inch range that had none of those colors.  Also that trout has the red fins with white edges similar to the brook trout which is what lead me to think that it could have been a hybrid

We have a reservoir here in Wyoming with Tiger trout.  and that looks just like one.  notice the vertical bands of color.  yup that is a tiger, take it in to your local gamewarden,  that is interesting.

agree with ebour, just a brown that still has parr marks.

Looks to me like a hybrid brown, a.k.a. TIGER TROUT.  Do an internet search and there are many examples like your fish, and like Ebour's.

I would show a Game Warden.  If your state doesn't stock tigers, than it is perhaps a Wild Tiger Trout.  There have been many documented cases in Wisconsin of this happening, perhaps it is happening in Vermont too.

Cool fish nevertheless, too bad it didn't go back (not slamming you, it is your right).

looks like a Rainbow with parr markings to me.  some of our 1 1/2 yo rainbows still have those markings at our hatchery.  those ones also tend to have the dark red ro brown fins also.  If i can i will try and find one with the net tomorrow.

one thing for sure is that it is not a tiger at all or a brook.

the lack of the white on the fins says its not a brook or tiger.  Nice spots like a brown.

I ammend my first guess.....  I looked at it on better CP screen and enlarged it a little and you can plainly see some red spots going down the side of the trout.  now my guess is brown all the way.  he just still has his parr markings.
