Tuesday Morning Surf
« on: Aug 06, 2017, 01:41 PM »
Wife and I are getting away to a B&B in Rockport Monday night and I am bringing a Surf Rod. I am going to try to get out Tuesday Morning for a few hours and maybe hit Halibut Point for a little plugging. It looks like it might rain, but if it is not down pouring I will go. If any one wants to join me, drop me a line. I am thinking crack of dawn to 7-8am.

Well, it had been a few years since I had fished Halibut Point at dawn (about 18). They close the park at night and you need to pay for parking, but you can't until they open... I was there at 4:30 and off the water at 6:30. So I took a chance and fished anyway. It did not take long to start banging some schoolies on a popper and had a good time, but that was all that showed up... Nothing very big and nothing worth pulling a camera out for. Best of all no ticket, but I would not take the chance again, at least for another decade or so...
Drove up the coast as far as Newburyport and took a few casts along the way with only a little micro striper action at one small beach. In the end, scored some good kudos with the wife and that alone made the trip worth it...

Way to get out.  Access on the north shore leaves much to be desired but I had always found willing schoolies most trips.
