Report from FL
« on: Apr 15, 2019, 09:36 AM »
Well I brought some gear down to Florida. We rented a pontoon boat one morning and I was able to land some juvenile fish, nothing even pic worthy, on the fly rod but for the most part couldn’t figure out the saltwater fish. The highlight of the trip from a fishing perspective was fishing the drainage pond behind the condo. I used my 8wt while my girlfriend had the spinning gear. I managed to land several small bass and gills on flies which were my first bass on the fly. Too small to put up much of a fight on the 8wt. My girlfriend however managed to land the biggest bass that I’ve seen in person. I’d say it was in the 8-10lb range but didn’t have a scale.

This is a better pic of me holding it when I got it out of the water bc she was scared of gators.

We were in the Venice area. There are so many fishing opportunities between the variety of freshwater fish, the gulf and the intercoastal waterway.  The wind made fishing the gulf and intercoastal quite difficult but I guess that isn’t typical for the gulf side.

Small world I use to go to Englewood every year spring break. Now I go to Hudson once a year slot of fishing opportunities down there from the tidal canals to the gulf to gator infested bass ponds

Venice - just a tiny bit north of where we will be.
Cool.
Thanks.

Thanks guys!  She was excited to get a nice fish after not catching anything on the pontoon boat.  Good thing she was using a setup designed for saltwater because she horsed the thing in like it was a 1lber.
